Oh to be 3

Potty Training

Sunday September 22nd Sawyer and I took a trip to the "Underwear Store" to begin the potty training process (see picture below). Sara from daycare thought that if we put Sawyer in underwear with a pull up over top he wouldn't like the feeling of being wet because some times Sawyer can be a little OCD ;). We had no luck in the potty that day just a couple of accidents. However, Sara was right...

Sawyer went on the potty for the first time on Monday September 23rd it happened in the evening. I was so excited because Matt and I both got to be home to celebrate and jump up and down with him. Going potty right before dinner time also meant that we got to go get Icecream before dinner to celebrate (see picture below).

I was really nervous about starting potty training and unsure if I was going to have enough time to dedicate. Luckily Sawyer caught on quickly. September 30th Sawyer had his first day at home with no accidents, October 1st Sawyer had his first day at daycare with no accidents (we have yet to poop in the potty). The night of October 1st into today Sawyer stayed dry all night long! Which meant we got to jump up and down scream and celebrate yet again. We also went and picked up donuts to take to daycare and share the good news with all of his friends. As nervous as I was for potty training, I have had so much fun and it hasn't been that awful (yet).

I have really enjoyed celebrating all of Sawyer's big accomplishments with him. I love seeing the joy on his face. You can tell how proud he is of himself, as he should be. I just love sharing it with him. I love listening to him yell with excitment, "MOOOOMMMMMMYYY I PEEEEEEEEEED!!!!!" I love that he wants to tell everyone that he peed in the potty. It just makes me so happy to see him happy. It makes me so excited to continue to go through life with this little boy and share in all of his joys and accomplishments along the way.

I love helping him learn how to pull his pants up and down and see how independent he tries to be as he does it himself (see picture below).

We also had Sawyer's 3 year old pictures along with some family pictures taken in September by Melinda Marie Photography. I included some of those pictures below.

It always ends up amazing me how long I go without writing in here. Sawyer is starting to talk so much more and he says the funniest things. The other day our conversation went some thing like this:

(It is almost bed time)
Me: "Man I am pooped."
Sawyer: "You pooped Mommy?? You poop on the floor?!"
Me: "(laughing) No Sawyer I'm tired.. I'm pooped."
Sawyer: "Oh no! You poop on the floor?! GO TO TIME OUT MOMMY!!"

and lately it has been, "Gus, you are ridiculous!"

... and of course over the weekend he was sitting upstairs watching TV on our bed and came downstairs with poop all over his hands informing us he had pooped. Life is never dull with him around and he always knows how to make me smile. I'm going to try and stay updated on little "Sawyerisms" if possible.

It's amazing, time is going so fast! I can't believe that 6 months ago Sawyer was barely saying anything and now he can say sentences with 3-4 words in them at a time. We have moved into our new place which finally allows us to have a small yard, driveway, and neighborhood park to play at. Some of Sawyer's favorite things to do are play with chalk and at the park. Each morning Sawyer wakes up I feel like he has grown so much. There are so many moments I wish that I could freeze frame time. In September we went to Texas for Cody and Jacy DeArmond's wedding, Sawyer was the ring bearer. Sawyer looked more adorable than ever, but he didn't want to listen to me or Matt and he was awful the whole day! Some day it will be fun to share stories of that whole day with him.  I haven't posted pictures of my little man in a while so here are a few of my favorites:

It's All Going So Fast!

Wow, I can't believe it has been almost 6 months since I have written in here. So much has changed since then I don't even know where to begin! Sawyer started walking mid October, right before Halloween. He has also been talking so much he can say Doggie, Howie, Mama, Daddy, Ready, Go, Love you, bye bye, hi, hello, Elmo, and really the list goes on and on. My little man cracks me up and makes me smile every single day. Last week Matt taught Sawyer how to "fist pump." One morning Sawyer walks out of his room going DA DA DA DA while pumping his fist into the air.

Sawyer also got his first hair cut right after Thanksgiving. He really needed it, everywhere we went people kept tell me that, "She looked so cute," that's when you know it is time. He also has just had his second hair cut 2 days ago. I always thought that I would never be the mom who gets attached to my childs hair and let it grow ridiculously long. So I learned, that most of the time I'm sure I will end up being the "Mom I never thought I would be," but I bet that happens to a lot of people.

We celebrated Thanksgiving in Texas this year with Matt's whole entire family and extended family. It was really a lot of fun and we got to be down there for about a week. For Christmas we spent it in Omaha. Christmas Eve we went to my Aunt Susan's house for Oyster Stew with her and my Grandpa and then on Christmas Day we stayed at home just the three of us and I attempted to make Matt's Mom's Cream Cheese Bread recipe. I think next year I'm going to watch her make it.

I really want to start writing in here again so I can remember all of the funny silly things my little man does, because he really does a lot. Like yesterday, he got in the cupboard and tried to shut himself in. Which then Lyndsay showed him how to criss-cross his legs and she shut the cupboard for him while he would say, "ready, bye-bye" then scream with excitement when she shut the door. He would push it open and yell BOO!!!! We spent at least 15-20 minutes cracking up laughing at him.

One thing I love about Sawyer (among the millions and billions of things I love) is how much he loves to dance. He dances to everything! His little car that plays music, he dances, he stacks rings and it plays music, he dances. We are walking somewhere and I'm holding him and he hears music he will start dancing in my arms. It's not just the dancing that makes me laugh it is is silly dance moves and how happy he is.

Saturday I'm really looking forward to taking Sawyer to go and see Sesame Street Live: Elmo Makes Music. Two reasons, 1: He loves music and 2: he loves Elmo :). I think my little man is going to be beyond excited tomorrow. Can't wait!!

Traveling and Sawyer's first birthday

Once again it has been awhile since I have posted. It seems like that happens when we get busy traveling all over the place. My friend Lauren came to visit for a week and see Sawyer then Sawyer and I went and visited my Mom in Oregon for three weeks then were only home in Texas for one week before leaving for Omaha to see my friend Lauren get married. On our way to Omaha we stopped in Arkansas to see Aunt Kerri, Uncle Brent, Kenzie, Camden and the new addition, baby Dawson. After another vacation of 2 1/2 weeks we made it make to Texas a week before Sawyer's first birthday to start getting ready. My mom came in town along with Matt's mom, dad, brother Tim, and sister Keri and her kids for Sawyer's birthday. We celebrated over at Matt's Aunt Tricia's house where we could fit more people. There was a baby pool and a giant water slide for all of the kids to enjoy. Sawyer's birthday theme was Curious George and he even had a Curious George birthday cake. Sawyer liked the frosting but when didn't like when I put his hand in the frosting and his hands were really messy. When I cut him a slice of cake and fed it to him he spit it out right away. I guess he isn't a big cake fan.

Lately Sawyer has been eating and sleeping a lot. He has been sleeping anywhere between 12-14 hours at night and taking two 2 hour naps a day. He eats three meals which when we have gone out to dinner are the kids portion sizes and he eats it all along with eating 3 snacks a day. I wonder what in the world my little man is getting ready to do!? Sawyer also has 2 of his one year molars coming in on the top and one of his front bottom teeth making an appearance. Yesterday we changed him over to his big boy car seat, but he still has to rear face, which really doesn't look comfortable but I know is safe. His exersaucer also was taken apart yesterday. So many new changes in the life of my one year old. I can't believe how big he is.

Sawyer is such a happy baby.. or toddler... He is constantly smiling or laughing. I can tell that he loves making other's smile and will go out of his way to flirt with other people in public. His crazy curly hair gives him so much personality and he has the biggest blue eyes. I know I am his mom, but my little boy is beautiful not only on the outside, but the inside too.

It is so strange to look back at old posts and see how little sleep I was getting and how tiny Sawyer was. That only feels like a few months ago to me now. Time is going by so fast I wish I could freeze Sawyer and keep him this small for just a little longer. Here are some pictures from the past couple of months:

Blessed

I was sitting here looking at old pictures of Sawyer and I can't help but think how thankful I am for him and how blessed I feel. Sawyer brings so much joy and happiness to my life. He really isn't a fussy baby he is very laid back, happy, and content. I love watching him explore his world and figure out life. Last night Matt and I went on a date and took Sawyer to his Aunt Tricia's house. I loved getting to spend some quality time with Matt, but at the same time I couldn't help but constantly think of my little boy and how much I missed him. At the end of the night it felt good to see him and hug him.

On Friday May 13th Sawyer and I went with a couple other girls and their little boys to the Grapevine Main Street Festival. Sawyer even go to check out the petting zoo, he loved looking at the goats, llamas, chickens, and bunnies. He kept sticking his hands out to touch them and squealed with happiness the whole time. We were only outside a few hours and I did put 60 SPF sunscreen on Sawyer's body. However, he still got sunburned a little on the left side of his face and one spot on his chest. I called the pediatrician for the first time just to make sure he was ok. Sawyer also started clapping about two weeks ago and he loves to crawl all around the apartment to explore things.
